Summary
Global Protect is a new VPN client that Butte County has begun rolling out. This is going to function in a two-step process. First, connecting to the Global Protect VPN and second accessing your computer via Remote Desktop.

You need to be a local admin on your PC to install this software.

You will need to know your OS version as there are three different downloads available for the Global Protect client.
To check your OS version for Windows:
1. Open your File Explorer
2. Right click on This PC then click Properties.
3. On the System Information Screen look for System Type. In this example, we have a 64-bit Windows operating system. Note this information for later.
VPN Client Installation Steps
1. In internet explorer go to https://gp.buttecounty.net
2. In the Portal enter your Butte County credentials
3. Select one of the three relevant agent version (32-bit or 64-bit for Windows, Mac client for Macs) and save the installer.
4. Once the installer is finished downloading, click Run the installer.
5. Click Next 3 times, then click close.
6. Now the Global Protect client is installed (the very first time you connect you will need a Portal Address). Enter gp.buttecounty.net as the Portal Address and then click Connect.
7. Enter your Butte County credentials and click Sign In.
8. You should now see a Connected.
This completes the VPN client installation portion
Remote Desktop Setup Steps
Summary
For our purposes now that you are connected to the Global Protect VPN your computer thinks it is online on the bci.buttecounty.net network. Now we want to set up a Remote Desktop Session that will bring your office machine to your current location.
Open Remote Desktop Connection by searching for Remote in the search bar.
In the Remote Desktop Connection window on the General tab enter your computer number (or IP address, if the computer number is failing contact IS for your IP) and your credentials preceded by bci\
Now move to the Local Resources tab. Click on Settings under Remote Audio.
On the Remote Audio window select:
Under Remote Audio Playback:
“Play on this computer”
Under Remote Audio Recording:
“Record from this computer”
Stay on the Local Resources window and go down to Local devices and resources. Make sure that Printers and Clipboards are both checked then click on More.
On the Local devices and resources screen check every box, then click OK.
In the Remote Desktop Connection return to the General tab.
In connection settings click Save As.
9. In the Save As window, make sure you are saving to your Desktop so you can easily find the connection icon again. Then name your connection something you will remember then click Save.
10. Now Click on Connect.
11. The first time you do this you will be asked Do you trust this remote connection? Check the box that says Don’t ask me again for connections to this computer
12. Enter your password.
13. Now you are on your desktop here in the office and can work as if you are sitting at your desk. You will notice a blue bar at the top of your screen with your work desktop PC name.
14. When you are finished working for the day click the X to close your desktop.
15. Last step is to disconnect from the Global Protect VPN. Click on the 3 lines in the top right of the box.
16. Click Disable.
