Summary

This tutorial will guide you in using the Windows desktop shortcut to access the screen to change your Butte County account password when working remotely. Using the ctrl+alt+del hotkey (as we usually do in the office) will not work when using a VPN. This desktop shortcut is located on your remote PC desktop and will allow users to easily access password change services independently.

Steps

1. Ensure you have logged into Global Protect to allow a remote desktop session.

2. Next, use your remote desktop connection to log into your in-office machine.

3. Once you have logged into your remote PC, locate the orange key desktop icon. This shortcut is what you will use instead of the ctrl+alt+del hotkey. Double click this shortcut to open the password change screen.

4. A new window will appear. Select Change a password and follow the steps to continue updating to your new password.

NOTE: Occasionally your password will not be updated on your work from home machine. To update the new password on your local machine use the hotkey, "Windows Key + L" simultaneously (screenshot below) to lock your computer. Then unlock and sign back in using your new password. Locking your machine is different than signing out. This will update the cached password file in Windows with your new password. To test if this method has worked properly you can do a full restart on your work from home machine then try signing into the desktop with the updated password.
