Summary
This tutorial will guide you in using the DNN web content manager for Development Services to create a hyperlink to another web page or uploaded repository files. DNN is used among many departments to edit web content. You will be given permissions to only edit content for your department’s page.
NOTE: You will need to speak with County IS to create your account and take a short class before being allowed to edit the Butte County web site.
Steps
1. Navigate to http://www.buttecounty.net/dds/ and search for the page you wish to edit. For this example, we will be editing the Zoning Administrator page by adding a hyper link to a video file that is uploaded in the web sites file repository.
2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Login button.
3. Sign into the web page using the credentials given to you from County IS. This login information is different than the credentials you use to log into your work machine.
4. Once you have successfully logged in you will see the editor options at the top of the page. Mouse over Edit Page in the top right corner of your screen to open the drop-down menu. Then select Edit This Page.
5. Locate the section of the page you wish to edit and click anywhere within the module.
NOTE: Modules are “blocks” of the page that you can edit and are bordered with a dotted line.
6. Click the two diagonal arrows to open up the Advanced Editor.
7. A new window will appear. You will see currently hyperlinked text in blue. Highlight the text you wish to hyperlink and click the Hyperlink Manager. We will be linking an audio file to the “AUDIO” text.
8. A new window will appear. Click the icon to the right in the URL row.
9. Navigate through the folders in the Document Manager until you find the file you need. Then set the Target as New Window. This will open a new browser window when the hyperlink is clicked by a visitor. Click Insert when you are finished.
NOTE: Files need to be uploaded to the repository before you can access them. You can also upload any files you need during this step.
10. You will see the URL path to the file you have selected in the Hyperlink Manager window. Click OK when you are finished.
11. The text you selected to hyper should now show as blue text. Click Close to exit the Advanced Editor.
12. You can preview your edits before publishing the page by selection the eye icon in the bottom left corner of the window.
13. If you need to make any additional changes you can Exit preview mode or Publish your work.
14. The page will exit edit mode after publishing. You are now finished creating a hyperlink using DNN on the Butte County web site.
