Summary

This guide will familiarize you with the use of UShare the Butte County version of dropbox or google drive.  This tool is used primarily for two reasons.  The ability to send and receive files that are larger than our Outlook mailboxes will allow and for file types that Outlook won’t accept. (i.e. zip files)

This guide covers:
 Sending files to another user

Requesting files from another user

Setting a static “Drop Box” for use

Guides

 Sending files

If you have a file you know is too large to send via Outlook, or a file type Outlook won’t send (i.e. zip files) you can send them via UShare.

Log into your UShare at https://ushare.buttecounty.net/

The default page you will be brought to is where you can send files.  Usually this will be a file too large for outlook or a file type that Outlook will not let you send.

Drag and drop your files to the Drop Files Here section or you can click Add Files to browse your computer for files.

Enter the email addresses you want the files sent To along with a Subject and Message if desired.

The bottom area of the screen has settings for who can access this information, for how long and how many times a person can download the files.

 In most cases you want

Authentication Required and Recipients Only

                                                                    OR

Authentication Not Required

Once you have attached your files, filled out the email information and decided on your access settings, simply hit SEND and the recipients will get a link to download the files from.

Requesting Files

If you know you need a file from a user that is either too large or a disallowed type, you can proactively request them to send you the file via UShare.

Log into your uShare at https://ushare.buttecounty.net/

Click on File Requests in the top Left

On the following screen you will see your currently active File Requests

Click on New File Request

This will open a page that allows you to send an email to someone that provides a link to drop files to.

Here is what the email looks like to the user you requested files from

Setting a static box for file drop off

Many of our users engage with large files or disallowed file types regularly.  One of the best ways to provide convenience is to have a link to a direct file drop.  This is useful to place in your Outlook signature or on a webpage to reference. To create the drop link, log into your uShare at https://ushare.buttecounty.net/

In the top right click on the Gear icon

Select Account Settings

Click on the tab Personal Filedrop

Here you will see the URLs for your personal file drops

Not recommended for us Filedrop (random) is a one time use box that you can reset after receiving a file. This isn’t a use case we would find in the County often. Usually this is for situations where a business is concerned about exploiters guessing or testing out email drop boxes, or to receive information from an entity you are concerned about solicitation or spam.

Recommend for us Filedrop
this is a static URL that you can post on a webpage, provide in a signature or email to someone that will bring them to a secure file drop at any time and can be reused as needed.
